Students will watch a short news report which relates to the topic of the play. They will then make predictions about the play based on this report.

Functional Skills English L1 Reading, Writing & Speaking and Listening Activity / Practice Test
This is a Functional Skills practice test / activity booklet. To make this fun for my class I based the activities on a conspiracy theory: the flat Earth theory.
The first task is a practice test with ten questions ( answers are provided). These are similar questions to what they may be asked on their reading exam. Students will read a source document which includes information on the flat Earth theory.
The second activity is a writing task and the learner will be asked to write an article for their collage magazine. They will write an article that informs people about this theory and also will give their own views on the subject.
The last activity is a speaking and listening activity, where the learner will prepare and take part in a group debate based on this topic.
This is good practice for their upcoming exam.
E3 Functional Skills English 24X Phonics Flash Cards - Spelling / Reading Common Words
24X Phonic Flash Cards - double sided with circle print on one side.
These are flash cards which are useful to use with Entry Level 3 learners.
In the exam, learners are expected to both read and spell certain words correctly. The NCFE created a list of common words that are often mis-spelt and which E3 learners need to learn to prepare for their spelling test.
Each card has the phonics sound symbol on the card with an example of a word containing that sound underneath. The letters underlined within these words correspond to the sound symbol and these letters need special attention for spelling.
You could add an extension activity and get the learner to create a sentence which includes each word.
English Language Flash Cards Transactional Writing. GCSE / Functional Skills. Speech / Article
28 X English language flashcards to help students with their transactional writing. You could get learners to pick one each at random or choose one for the whole class to write a response to.
Each card has a statement and it is up to the students whether to write a piece of text that agrees or disagrees with the statement.
Example:
“E-learning should replace classroom learning.”
Get learners to research the pros and cons of e-learning before deciding whether or not they agree with this statement.
These can be used as prompt to writer either a speech, an article of even a letter which puts their opinions across.
Flash cards can be laminated and there are four per A4 sheet. Card are double sided with a polka dot background on the opposite side.
